A Handy Bed Bug Prevention Guide For Dallas Homeowners
It is a common misconception that bed bug problems only happen to people with dirty homes. The truth is they can happen to anyone. You can get bed bugs no matter how clean your home is. Bed bugs don't choose to live with you. Instead, they are accidentally carried into your home. Today, we're going to talk about the ways bed bugs invade, and what you can do to stop these bugs.
Where Do Bed Bugs Hide?
Bed Bugs Hide In Furniture
If you buy a used bed, you can accidentally get bed bugs. You probably know that. But do you know that you can get bed bugs when you buy other pieces of furniture? Do you know that you can get them when you buy used electronics? Do you know you can get them if you get any item that has a void inside? Well, now you do.
The way you stop bed bugs is by carefully inspecting used items for signs of bed bugs. Look for:
- Black or brown stains.
- Black specks.
- Shed insect skins.
- Tiny white eggs.
- A scent that smells like a musty towel.
- The presence of bed bugs in the cracks and crevices.
Bed bugs can elude your inspection. Keep in mind that the only way to know for certain that an item is free of bed bugs is to have it treated by a professional.

Bed Bug Identification
You can pick bed bugs up in many places. While they are most commonly acquired in hot spots and transportation hubs, you can get them from your work, your school, or a retail store. You can get them in the library. You kids can get them at daycare or school. The best way to stop bed bugs is to detect them before you bring them home. We discussed the warning signs of bed bugs above, but it is also important to be able to identify bed bugs in all stages of development. Keep in mind that you'll probably have to use the light on your smartphone to see them. Bed bugs don't like light.
- Bed bugs hatch from their eggs as nymphs. They don't have a larval stage.
- Newly hatched nymphs are pale in color and have six legs, two antennae, and three body parts.
- Newly hatched nymphs have transparent skin. If they've had a blood meal, you'll see the blood.
- After digestion, the excrement inside a bed bug will be visible. This excrement is black.
- Nymphs turn tan and eventually become a rusty brown color.
- Adult bed bugs are oval and flat with horizontal crease lines on their abdomens.
