How Bed Bugs Get Into San Antonio Homes
Bed bugs are often misunderstood pests. While these insects have become common in the United States over the last two decades, they still have people scratching their heads (and other things) when infestations begin. If you have discovered bed bugs in your San Antonio home, and you're wondering how you got them, here are a few facts that can help you solve the mystery.
Bed Bugs
When you open your doors and windows, you don't have to worry about bed bugs coming in. They don't live in your yard. These insects are almost exclusively indoor insects. They move from one location to another by accident. Scientists call this passive dispersal. Bed bugs hide in objects that can be carried. When these objects are moved, the bed bugs move with them. When they get to the new location, they continue to do what they did at the last location; they will hide in dark voids and tight spaces and seek out humans in order to draw blood for sustenance. It is important to take note that there is nothing about your home that attracts bed bugs—or drives them away. It doesn't matter if your home is dirty or immaculate. Bed bugs don't choose to live with you.
Bed Bug Eggs
A bed bug infestation can begin with a batch of eggs. When a female lays her eggs in an item, such as a piece of luggage, a pocketbook, an article of clothing, a piano, etc., those eggs can hatch on their own without the female bed bug's attention. This is a common way infestations begin because when one bed bug, particularly a male bug, accidentally crawls into your stuff, it is going to have a difficult, or impossible, time growing a population in your home. When bed bug eggs hatch, the females and the males grow, mate, and reproduce. So, it is important to consider these eggs when you work to prevent a bed bug infestation in your San Antonio home.
